Keeping Your Breakaway System in Top Shape: A Maintenance Guide

 

Breakaway systems are not just for caravans or camper trailers- they're also commonly used on tradie trailers, boat trailers, and horse floats! Ensuring these systems are well-maintained and regularly tested is crucial for not only your safety but also the safety of others on the road. 


Hot tip: If you are looking for your breakaway system can not find it in your caravan, try looking under the bed or in the caravan boot just behind the A-Frame.
 

Battery Information

The Breaksafe 6000 runs on a 12V 7AH SLA, and the Breaksafe 6000XP uses a 12v 9AH SLA. These batteries are commonly used in security systems as a back up and can be found at battery supply stores stores such as Battery World. 
Batteries do naturally degrade over time and lose power and capacity. For this reason, we recommend you change you battery every 2 years. To access the battery, release the clips on either side and gently remove the lid. 
 

How To Test Your Breaksafe 6000/6000XP Breakaway System

To test the Breakaway system prior to use, simply press the 'TEST' button on the centre of the Breaksafe. To learn more about our testing procedure, here is a step by step guide:
1. Safely disconnect the caravan or trailer from the towing vehicle.
2. Locate the Breaksafe unit and press the 'TEST' button
3. Observe the indicator light:
  • A green light means the system is functioning correctly. 
  • A redlight or no light indicates a potential issue.
4. If any issues are detected, refer to the troubleshooting section below or consult our Frequently Asked Questions page. 


Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • No Indicator Light: Check the battery connections and ensure the battery is charged and not more than 2 years old. 

  • Red Indicator Light: This could indicate low battery or a fault in the system. Charge or replace the battery. If issues persist, call us for further advise on (08) 8261 3500.
